Foundation Grants: 2010
Below we have listed some of the many organizations receiving donations from Webkinz Foundation in 2010. This list is by no means complete, but rather a sampling of the broad range of programs we support.
- Camp Oochigeas

Camp Oochigeas is a volunteer based organization that provides kids with cancer and kids affected by childhood cancer, with challenging, fun, enriching and magical experiences. This grant will sponsor the First Aid Room in their new facility, Ooch Downtown. The location will include a multi-sport area, teaching kitchen and rock wall to challenge all ages and ability levels, providing kids who cannot attend the camp, an "Ooch experience"!
- Kids Help Phone

Kids Help Phone Canada has a mission to improve the well-being of Canadian children and youth by providing them anonymous and confidential professional counselling, referrals, and information – the immediate help and hope that young people need and deserve 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
- The Stop Community Food Centre

Believing food should be a basic human right, The Stop works to increase access to food while maintaining dignity, building health and community, and challenging inequality. This grant will support innovative programs including community kitchens and gardens, cooking classes, drop-in meals and peri-natal support. Through school visits and after-school programs, children learn about healthy food: how to grow and cook it, and how food choices affect others, the environment and their health.
- Riders for Health

Riders for Health works to ensure that health workers in Africa have uninterrupted access to reliable transportation. They have put in place preventive maintenance systems for two- and four-wheeled vehicles used in health care delivery, allowing health workers to reach rural villages. Riders currently operates programs in Gambia, Zimbabwe and Nigeria. All programs are managed by wholly-African, wholly-professional teams, thus building a lasting base of local knowledge and a culture of maintenance in the communities with which it works.
- Malaria No More (MNM)

MNM is determined to end malaria deaths in Africa by 2015. Of the over 860,000 deaths annually, 90% occur in Africa. This grant will support the launch of the NIGHT WATCH program in Senegal, West Africa, targeting families with nightly broadcast reminders to use vital mosquito nets. This outreach program will be supported with new school curriculum and leadership programs for children.
- Dignitas International
- $20,000.00

Dignitas International works to increase access to HIV/AIDS-related prevention, treatment, care and support in the Zomba district of Malawi. Each month, hundreds of children and adults get essential care and the education to help raise awareness and reduce stigma. This grant will support vital pediatric aids programs, among others.
- St. Bernard Project

Since Katrina, St. Bernard Project has rebuilt the homes and lives of more than 295 families in the Greater New Orleans area, with help from over 23,000 volunteers. Currently, 20% of patients in their Center are children. The Foundation grant will be used for mental health services that support children and adults and will expand services for children impacted by the oil spill.
- UNICEF Canada

In April 2010, our Foundation agreed to match donations up to $1000,000 to UNICEF Canada during a mail campaign in support of their child labour projects in Bangladesh. To date, $184,550 has been raised from the matching gift appeal, to which Webkinz Foundation has added $100,000. This means $284, 550 will go to tackle the issue of child labour and help secure a better future for vulnerable children.

- The Namuwongo Literacy Project

The NLP works to provide education for orphaned children in the Namuwongo slums on the outskirts of Kampala, Uganda. Since 2006, over 60 children have received some education in numeracy and literacy, plus one meal and a snack each day.
- Three To Be Foundation

Three To Be Foundation was started by Dana and Jared Florence after their triplets were diagnosed with cerebral palsy at the age of ten months. The foundation works in partnership with Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children and Bloorview Kids Rehab to support the development of new treatments and therapies for children's neurological disorders.
- The Hole in the Wall Gang Camp

The first Hole in the Wall Camp for children facing serious illnesses was founded by Paul Newman in Ashford, Connecticut in
1988. With all of their medical needs met, campers enjoy singing, dancing, horseback riding, boating, swimming and fishing, among other activities, learning in the process that they can do more than they ever thought possible. More than half of their campers come from low-income families and all services are provided free of charge.
- Anchorage Vineland Family Resource Centre

The grant will provide funding for a one-week workshop for pre-school staff of the Vineyard Early Learning Center in Anchorage, Alaska. The workshop will train staff in child abuse and neglect prevention and intervention; ways to support families in crisis; recognizing signs and symptoms; connecting with community resources and supporting young children who have been victims.
- Plan Canada

Plan has been working in Niger since 1998, helping over 20,000 children to access their rights to health, education and protection. As well as supporting teacher training, managing emergency situations and promoting good health practices, Plan is focusing on a school canteen project that gives breakfast and lunch to school children. This not only encourages school attendance, it improves village food security and children’s nutrition.
- AJWS
- $10,000.00

American Jewish World Service funds grassroots programs in many developing countries. They are dedicated to alleviating poverty, hunger, and disease among the developing world regardless of race, religion or nationality. This grant supports two programs that AJWS is supporting in the Democratic Republic of Congo. These programs prevent the recruitment of child soldiers, reintegrate child soldiers into their communities, and raise awareness about HIV/AIDS.
- Migdal Ohr
- $50,000.00
March 2010
Migdal Ohr provides loving care, education and social guidance to children from underprivileged and troubled homes from across Israel. This school offers a broad range of programs, from infant daycare through to adult education. Half of this grant will be used to create two Webkinz-themed activity and playrooms for children, while the rest will be used for general programming.
- Nellie’s Shelter for Women and Children

For over 35 years, Nellie’s has provided shelter, dignity and hope to over 15,000 women and their children fleeing violence, poverty and homelessness. This grant will support the children at Nellie’s: providing activities and experiences for marginalized children who are homeless or at-risk, who are living in poverty, and/or are survivors of violence. As well, cribs, furniture and playrooms will be updated and refreshed.
- Red Door Family Shelter
- $2,000.00

Red Door Family Shelter provides safe and supportive shelter to families, women and children affected by domestic abuse. By far the largest number of homeless people are women and children. Many are mothers who have struggled to make a safer future for their children. The grant supports programs including crisis counseling, child care and educational programs, and parenting and life skills training.
