Foundation Grants: 2008
Below we have listed some of the many organizations received donations from Webkinz Foundation in 2008. This list is by no means complete, but rather a sampling of the broad range of programs we support.
- SickKids Foundation
- $250,000.00
November 2008
Webkinz Foundation is pleased to support the Highest Priority Needs fund at SickKids Foundation which funds the purchase of state-of-the-art equipment, the training of the brightest researchers, and improving infrastructure within The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids). Our gift to SickKids Foundation is creating a playroom in the hospital where children can continue to experience fun and enjoyment, even during their time at SickKids. The 'Webkinz® Room' is equipped with computers and decorated with Webkinz-related art and graphics.
- Global Reach Children’s Fund
- $250,000.00
October 2008
This grant is going toward the building of Faith Village, a community development project in Sulalta, Ethiopia. Faith Village is a multi phase project that will ultimately have a children’s home, medical examination centre, elementary school, vocational training centre and sports facilities for disadvantaged children. The initial phases will concentrate on medical care and education for hundreds of children, and will include a centre which will care for orphaned infants and toddlers.
- War Child Canada
- $210,000.00
October 2008
War Child Canada develops programs for war affected children and their families. In Sri Lanka, The Children’s Trauma Recovery Program provides programs focused on pre-school development, provision of psychosocial support, numeracy and literacy training, and nutrition and medical programs to 1,750 trauma-affected children. With this grant from Webkinz Foundation War Child Canada can continue to provide care to these children and offer them opportunities they otherwise would not have.
- Families For Children
- $100,000.00
October 2008
Families For Children operates homes that care for destitute women and children in India and Bangladesh. They provide children with education, general care and medical care, and have workshops for skill training and business development for women. In India, many of the children go to local public schools, but there are some children who, predominantly because of health issues, cannot attend. This grant will enable Families For Children to greatly expand an existing classroom and build a second classroom within their property, to provide these children with a quality education.
